Mike King had a great blog post about bullying that you can read here. If you don't know, Mike King is the President at Youthfront camps, who is a very thoughtful and thought-provoking person. Towards the end of the post he notes some things that parents can do to help their kids with the problem of bullying.
"What can parents do?
- Talk to your kids about bullying.
- Go see the movie Bully with your age appropriate kids.
- Educate yourself on your kid’s world, their friends and the social environments they spend time in.
- Be appropriately curious of your kid’s social media world."
It is not inappropriate for you to be involved in your kids social media world, but you can do it with respect. Bullying is a growing issue in the lives of teenagers and the internet makes it easier and more convenient that ever before.
Have you talked with your kids about bullying? Have you acted in a way to support your kids if they are bullyed or to help your kids if they participate in bullying? What are some other strategies you can use to help students around this issue of bullying?
