Have you ever run across an artist that is relatively unknown who just blows you away? I had this happen twice by the same guy. In the late 90s early 2000s there was this underground band called Dispatch. The song "The General" absolutely blew me away. Here is a youtube video of it from The Late Late Show in 2002:
I think it was the guitar rift coupled with the lyrics about sacrifice and forgiveness. Because of that song, I fell in love this little three piece band. I hear they have new album coming out.
A couple of years ago, I found out the drummer from Dispatch, Brad Corrigan aka Braddigan had a solo album. So I checked it out. This song made a huge impact on me.
I am blown away by the spirituality, the moving lyrics, and the beauty of this song. Most of all I appreciate that it is an honest song about doubting and surrendering to God anyway. This is the song I turn to whenever I'm feeling doubtful about God, Christianity, my life path. This is the song that brings me encouragement by validating my doubts and showing me how to surrender anyway.
What songs really do this for you? What artists that maybe are a little unknown really grab a hold of you? Where do you see God's work in music?
